Adopt a shelter pet
The Maryland SPCA’s adoption center is open to the public!
You can apply for a pet online before coming to the shelter. However, please be aware: an online application does not reserve a shelter pet.
All adoptions are first-come, first-served in person at the shelter.
Here’s how it works:
- Come to our adoption center at 3300 Falls Rd.
- Walk through our dog kennel and/or cat room to find a pet you like.
- Scan the application QR code in our adoption lobby. An adoption counselor can help you apply on your phone or our tablet.
- Meet the pet and ensure a good match.
- After that, we’ll complete an interview on the phone or in person.
- If we both agree it’s a good fit, you’ll complete the paperwork and payment digitally.
- Then we’ll bring out your new pet!

Adopt a foster pet
We also have foster pets available for adoption. These adoptions are completed online, not in person at the shelter.
Here’s how it works:
- Visit our adoption page to view available pets. Foster pets’ profiles are marked with a yellow banner.
- If you find one you like, submit an online application.
- We’ll email instructions to schedule a meet-and-greet/interview via Zoom.
- Once we confirm your appointment, we’ll place the pet on hold for 24 hours.
- Complete your virtual meet-and-greet and interview.
- If we both agree it’s a good fit, we’ll complete the paperwork and payment digitally.
- We’ll schedule a time for you to pick up your pet!
Please be aware: payment and pickup must be completed before the 24-hour hold expires. This prevents long delays in finding pets homes.
