Pepe’s Journey

In mid-February, the Maryland SPCA admitted a very special case. Eight-year-old Pepe was fighting the deadly parvovirus.

Because parvo is so contagious, he had to be quarantined away from the other animals. Our staff tirelessly cared for him, providing fluids and food, cleaning and sanitizing, and weighing and snuggling him.

Once he beat the virus, he was placed in a loving foster home. He finally got to be a puppy, chewing on shoes and knocking over plants. He continued routine checkups with our staff until he was ready for adoption.

And we’re very happy to share his final milestone! On Saturday, May 9, Pepe was the first dog to find his forever home using our virtual adoption process. His family was brought to tears when they finally got to pick him up.
