Get Started
If you want to volunteer at the Maryland SPCA, complete our online application.
You must be 17 years or older to volunteer.
Urgent Needs:
Dog Deputy
Walk, play with, and clean up after dogs in the shelter. Introduce dogs to potential adopters. (Morning and evening shifts needed)
Foster
Provide temporary care for kittens, puppies, cats, or dogs until they’re available for adoption.
Front Desk Concierge
Be the face of the Maryland SPCA by greeting visitors, sharing program information, and taking go-home photos of adoptees
Always Needed:
Kibble Connection General Volunteer
Support families with pets by volunteering at our Kibble Connection pet food pantry.
Cat Cuddler
Socialize and play with cats and kittens in the shelter. Introduce them to potential adopters.
Spay/Neuter Volunteer
Clean and prepare surgical supplies, help clean cat and dog crates, and do laundry.
Event Volunteer
Provide customer service to event attendees and assist with setup/breakdown.
Amazon Warrior
Help pets at the MD SPCA and in the community by volunteering at our Amazon donation pickups.
Court-ordered
Perform your court-ordered community service with the MD SPCA. You must be 18 years of age or older and pre-approval is required. Misdemeanors only.
Other Ways To Help:
Group Volunteering
Bring your group to volunteer at the shelter. Three- and four-hour shifts are available. Registration required.
Youth Volunteering
While our standard programs are designed for those 17 and older, there are still ways children under 17 can help our pets.
