Dear Animal Lover,

I wish you could see Merlin’s trusting smile and hear the joy in his playful bark.  Not long ago, he wasn’t so happy.

Merlin came to us from another animal rescue shelter who didn’t have room for him.  He was an eight-year old Beagle/Corgi mix.  He appeared to have a painful eye injury, and he wasn’t in very good spirits.  When our transport coordinator saw him, she fell in love with him.  She knew he would receive good treatment at The Maryland SPCA.

After we brought Merlin to our Adoption Center, our staff examined him to begin treatment for his eye.  Merlin was later found to have ten BB pellets in his chest!  Can you imagine his broken heart? 

Thanks to caring friends who support The Maryland SPCA, we were able to give Merlin a new chance at life.

I’m happy to report that after receiving treatment and care from our staff and volunteers, Merlin has a new home with a loving family, who report that he fits in well with their other dogs and is quite happy.

I’m sharing Merlin’s story with you because I’m hoping you’ll help The Maryland SPCA come to the aid of more animals like Merlin.  So many pets come to us each year—many of them sick, injured and desperately in need of tender loving care. 

The love we give is free and comes from the heart.  But the shelter, the nourishing food, the veterinary care and daily supplies cost money.
