Daisey and Star are Best Buddies

We adopted Daisey and Star from your wonderful MD SPCA in November of 2000. Daisey was formerly known as Arizona, and Star was formerly named Tasia. They joined two other kitties, Rose and Buttercup, in our home. They are all getting along just fine.

Daisey and Star became best buddies. (In the photo Star is on the left, Daisey on right.) Even though they didn't know each other at the time we adopted them, they hit it off immediately. They wash each other and sleep together. Daisy is 12 and Star is almost 10 now. They are both sweeties. Star loves to snuggle. He is with three girl cats and loves it. Once in a while he gets a wild hair and chases the girls. He has several nicknames: Mr.Chops, Mr. Soft, Girl Watcher, Boy of Summer and of course Mr. Horndog. But he does answer to Star. Daisey is our couch potato and a gentle sweetheart. She now loves being brushed. She was afraid of that when we first got her, but I worked with her very slowly and after about two years she started alowing me to brush her all over. Now she loves it. She always comes in where I keep the brushes and waits for her brushing. Daisey loves to "help" with whatever we are doing around the house. She also likes to snuggle on the lazyboy chairs in the living room. At first she used to just jump up on the footrest for about two seconds and then jump down, but after two years or so she started staying longer and now she will snuggle right up next to us and stay awhile. Hard to believe it has been almost nine years since we were at your SPCA and adopted them. Thank you for having them there. —Amy & Rick

Shorty is Thriving

To the folks at Falls Road,
My wife saw Shorty (old and new name) on TV. My wife said, "I want thast dog!" When we got him, he was a bag of bones from neglect from his previous owners. He weighed 28 lbs. He was directed to the MD SPCA by the police. You all did a wonderful job to make him healthy again.
He was a bit of a lunatic at first, but with love and trust he now is like an old shoe. He loves his walks with his sister, Penny, the pocket beagle. We refer to him as our "Welsh Retreiver" because he is a Golden Retreiver/Corgi mix. Thank you for bringing Shorty into our lives.—Wayne

TJ Is A Best Friend

Just wanted to update you on an amazing adoption. TJ (formerly Teddy Bear) is great and my best friend for sure. We spend a lot of time hiking in wilderness areas for days at a time and thought I would send you some pics.

Thank you very much.—Brian

Boh Is the Biggest Snuggle Bug

We have had Boh (formerly known as Elvis) since May of 2009. When we first brought him home, he was scared of everything from the sound of dishes being put away to plastic bags being opened. A walk was more stressful than it was something to be excited about. Three months later, we have come a long way. Boh's favorite weekend and occasionally evening activity is hiking at Gunpowder Park. As you can see in the picture, with his best buddy "Leo," Boh was very brave in inspecting a turtle that the boys spotted on the trail. Boh still gets nervous around men he doesn't know and hides under the covers during thunder storms, but for the most part he is a completely different dog than the one we brought home. He has a huge personality, is the source of many great laughs and is the biggest snuggle bug (and by his own determination, lap dog). We love him so very much and couldn't imagine not having him pouncing his sixty-pound body onto the bed every morning when he's ready for his breakfast! —Shawn

Frank Is a Really WOnderful Dog

Frank the dog is doing great at his new home in Hampden. He is fitting in well with Mary the cat (also a MD SPCA alum) and enjoys food, walks and smelling things.

Frank is really a wonderful dog and is a great addition to my house and my life. Thank you, MD SPCA. —Peter

Princess is Loved

Princess (AKA Princey), I love her so much. When she first came home with my husband, Marshall, and me, she was a little shy. But, within a couple of days she got to know us and the neighborhood dogs and fell in love with us all, and now with everyone she meets. I wish the previous owners could read this to see how well she's doing. She loves digging, the water sprinklers, chasing squirrels and hanging out with her best friend Isis (German Shepherd/Doberman mix). —Teresa

Ginger Always Brings a Smile

I adopted Ginger on July 9, 2008 (she was known as Jane). She was the last puppy left in her litter to be adopted and also the runt of the litter. She was only five pounds when I got her. She was kind of hesitant at first, but she didn't let her little size stop her from showing her playful personality and her fun side. It's been an exciting year for Ginger. She did great adjusting to her new home and was a rock star when it came to house training! She's loving life! While out on a walk, she knows how to bring a smile to any observer's face by doing her self-taught specialty: rolling into a half-somersault position and sliding down the small grassy hills in my neighborhood on her back. She can be quite silly and comical! She loves lying in the grass, basking in the sun, chasing birds and playing with her Kong Wubba (her favorite toy, hands down). She loves a great belly rub and being told she's a "pretty girl"! Her favorite trick is the "paw shake." She's a loving friend, and she can always bring a smile to my face. Adopting her from the Maryland SPCA is one of the best decisions I made in my life. Thank you. —Keiva

Even the Cats Like Jody

Jody has brought such joy to my life. It took me a while to get over the death of my last dog. But now I can't imagine life without Jody. She greets me at the door with a whole-body tail wag, and waits mostly patiently until we can go for our evening walk. She has playdates a couple times a week with the dog next door. She is so sweet and loving—even the cats like her. —Kathy

Leroy's Energy Brings Happiness

Leroy Brown (formerly Homer) has been such a fantastic additon to my furry family =) He quickly warmed up to his three cat brothers, and they live in harmony (most of the time). He has the best personality and is so very loving. You were not lying when you said he was a "swinging tap-dancer," but his energy and enthusiasm have brought so much happiness to my life. I truly believe that adopting an animal who needs a home is the only way to go and Leroy has certainly proved that! —Kaymi

RanDy and Missy Moved In

Our tale is of the assistance the MD SPCA gave in getting a "wild" cat neutered. I had never heard of the Trap, Neuter, Return program before two wild cats started showing up on our deck. In all we trapped and neutered seven!

We trapped Randy, about three months old at the time, and returned him to our field. This enabled us to gain the trust of his mother, who we also trapped and spayed a few months later. Once she recovered in our home for a few days, she decided "enough of this outdoor life" and moved in, bringing Randy, her son, with her. Randy and Missy are now loving members of our household. This is thanks to the Trap, Neuter, Return program promoted by the MD SPCA. Note Randy's notched ear. We never thought he would tame up, but he's getting there. —Susan

Life Without Princess is Unimaginable

When I first went looking for a cat, I played with at least five or six. They were all very sweet, but I really couldn't decide on any one cat. Just as I was about to give up for the day and go home, I saw a tiny furball looking at me from the back corner of her cage. I hadn't noticed her before. I asked to play with her, and I immediately knew she was the one.

I've had Princess (formerly YooHoo) for 3 years now! In fact, as I'm writing this, she's snuggled up next to me :) She's grown quite a bit—I think she was 6 pounds when I got her and she's now up to a plump 11 pounds! The official diet is starting next week—she just doesn't know it yet :)

Here is a picture of her with "Mr. Mouse", her favorite toy. She's so sweet, she'll only bat him around for a few seconds before snuggling with him! She's been a joy— I now can't imagine life without her! We both just wanted to say thank you, MD SPCA, for all the great work you do. —Elizabeth
